Home / Treatments / Foam Sclerotherapy
Foam sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment used to close abnormal veins by injecting a specially prepared foamed solution directly into the affected vein. The solution causes the vein walls to collapse and seal shut, allowing blood to naturally reroute through healthy veins.
Over time, the treated vein is absorbed by the body and becomes less visible.
The sclerosant medication is mixed with air to create a foam that increases surface contact within the vein. This allows for more effective treatment compared to liquid sclerotherapy, particularly for larger or deeper veins.
The foam displaces blood within the vein, minimizing dilution and improving treatment effectiveness.
Most patients return to normal activities shortly after foam sclerotherapy. Compression stockings are typically recommended for a period of time following treatment to support healing and improve results.
Mild bruising or temporary discoloration may occur and usually resolves over time.
Foam sclerotherapy is a proven and effective treatment for many vein conditions. Results develop gradually as treated veins fade, and multiple sessions may be recommended depending on the extent of the veins being treated.
A consultation can help determine whether foam sclerotherapy is the most appropriate treatment for your vein condition.
